CHILDREN'S MUSIC(ALS) with environmental themes

NEW MUSICAL for schools:

       BIRDSONGS

The birds of the Kaipara, South Head, and Muriwai attend a conference at Lake Rototoa to set and agenda of the issues they face and to discuss what needs to be done to save themselves and each other. Nine songs with script between each. Even an Elvis impersonator shark has his say.

a poster for BIRDSONGS - cartoonlike cameos of endangered creatures. Kids holding hands across page.

Listen to the song, VEGAS FOOL, sung by a shark, and see him take his final bow. He has decided to leave show business and return to the Kaipara Harbour to live his best life and resume his responsibilities as a predator.

this button says Play Me Now and plays a song, Vegas Fool sung by an Elvis impersonator shark.

I wrote these musicals for/as whole school environmental music projects. I strongly believe that music productions can provide unforgettable memories in a child's mind setting them up for a future of caring for the world they live in.

Each musical has about 8 songs, each one tailored to a different age level from the new entrants to ages 13 and even beyond. Whangamata Area School did a production of Island Dreams where every student was involved. The higher grades did lighting and sound, choreography, and costume design and direction while the primary and intermediate levels provided the cast. Home Free has been performed by Sutherland School in Henderson with a much younger group of kids.  It was written originally for Parawai School in Thames and there is a DVD available of this performance. River Songs can be performed more as a concert musical with all kids on stage at the same time, arranged on bleachers and dressed in colors to depict a mountain. i.e., dark green at the bottom, going into lighter greens, then blues, and purples, and whites for the snowy top. This musical has a short skit that introduces each song. This show would be ideal for an intermediate school.

Sea Blues is a musical waiting for a script. It would work very well at a high school level where students would write their own script to support the songs. It's about caring for our oceans. Please CONTACT ME for the performance rights and to rent the backing tracks.

The Man who used to have a Car and a Cat is a production song suitable for any primary level concert performance. The choir does the singing and actors can speak and act out the aside type script. It's a very familiar song. Listen to the mp3 to get the idea.

The Princess Who Couldn't Sing is a short musical with 5 songs written for senior high school students to produce and perform at kindergartens. This was for credit in a Theatre Arts Course. It's about 25 minutes long and very easy to produce. There is a backing track available for no fee for this show.

THE MAN WHO USED TO HAVE A CAR & A CAT

  a mini-minor musical production song

This is a production song sung to the tune of Bill Grogan's Goat to be performed by a class or a choir or as a concert item at assembly .
